SPCA Weekly News

ADORABLE DOG SPOTLIGHT...AMIGO
Amigo is a French poodle, approximately one-year old. We picked an appropriate name for this dog as he is a joyful, fun little guy who would make a wonderful companion and friend. When he was first rescued he was so dirty and matted, he was so miserable he now just loves to be clean and groomed!
Danielle from the Casita says “I believe he would enjoy being the only dog of the house so he could receive all of the love, although he does play well with others also. Not only will he be a fun friend to take out and about, he also enjoys sitting on your lap soaking up the attention. This joyful dog would be a wonderful addition to any family.”

ADORABLE KITTENS SPOTLIGHT... HELEN, RICKEY & POPEY
These cuties were abandoned in a box and a kind soul brought them to us. They are being fostered and will be offered for adoption as soon as they are large enough to be fixed and vaccinated. We have a number of felines of all ages looking for forever homes.

They are currently being cared for by a few of our dedicated volunteers and brought to the library each Saturday. If you can’t think about a “forever” home for some of these animals, please do consider fostering. It is a great chance to volunteer and to help rescue the many needy animals in our community. If you can assist, please contact us via our website (www.spcapv.com) or send an email to spcapv@gmail.com.

To see all the animals available for adoption, visit our website (www.spcapv.com or www.spcapv.blogspot.com). The SPCA PV will continue to host adoption events at both Biblioteca Los Mangos and Farmer’s Market every Saturday from 10am - 2pm. Biblioteca Los Mangos is located on Francisco Villa around the corner from Costco. The Farmer’s Market is being held in Paradise Community Center in Olas Altas. t.

ADOPTION REPORT
Due to the holiday, no adoptions were held at the library, nor did we have any luck at the Farmer’s Market. But we do have lots of news to share.

This week three of our dogs arrived in Vancouver on Friday ready to find their forever homes there. We are hoping Teddy and Pepita will find homes together. These senior citizens are bonded and are at the moment still together in a foster home. Cody is also ready for his forever home but is enjoying all the special attention from his foster family.

Along these lines, we are trying to get some dogs to Vancouver . If anyone can help with rides to Vancouver and Calgary, please contact Janice Chatterton at the Hacienda San Angel (janice@haciendasanangel.com) and she will make sure there is someone on the other end to receive the dogs if they find a ride. Please note that some airlines do not accept dogs in cargo beginning the first of May.

We understand that both Rizzo and Ralph will be going to their forever homes soon. One of our very special “angels” has promised to come to their rescue. We are so happy that both of these guys will be able to stay together. We have assumed that they were litter mates, which may not in fact be correct.

However, it is quite clear that they have formed a strong bond after surviving life on the beach prior to coming to the SPCA. Laura, you have made EVERYONE at the SPCA so happy by your generosity of spirit. We also want to send along our condolences for your recent losses, we know these guys will fill that void...you are truly an angel!
More exciting is the progress coming along on our new non-kill shelter currently being built. Thanks to generous donations we were able to purchase an additional parcel of property as well as modify the construction plans so that the shelter will be all on one level. Here is one photo, showing only half of the building. It is actually going to be twice as long!!!!!

DOG TRAINING CLASSES
We are very pleased to announce that the round of dog training classes was a complete success. We’ve included a photo taken this past week of participants in the training. And this from Mark McCoy: “We have completed our training classes for this winter and will start again in November. We did not have enough people to conduct another class right now and our instructors need to return to the States for the summer. In November we plan to conduct another series of classes and we will publish an announcement in our SPCA newsletter with instructions for enrolling in the class.”

SPECIAL THANKS...
To Joan Bates for her donation of $180.
